Preparing Your Home for a Smoke and CO Alarm Inspection

Are you selling your home? You need a certificate of compliance from the local fire department that shows your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms meet the requirements for a sale or transfer. Every home should have working smoke and CO alarms. You must have a certificate of compliance that shows your smoke and CO alarms meet certain standards when you sell or transfer a home. This page helps you determine if your alarms meet requirements or must be replaced, and how to get a certificate of compliance. Use the guide below to help prepare your home for the inspection:
1. All Smoke Detectors must be “Photoelectric” Type detectors (This can be found on the label of the detector)
2. A Carbon Monoxide Detector is required on every habitable level of the home (Including the basement)
3. House numbers must in contrasting color on the front of the home clearly visible from the street.
4. You will need the year the home was built to select one of the links below.

It is the responsibility of the homeowner to obtain information on the year the home was built or the last major renovation

The fee for Smoke Detector Inspections are $30 payable by check to the “Town of Hanson”
WE DO NOT PRESCHEDULE INSPECTIONS.

To schedule a Smoke Detector Inspection in the Town of Hanson, contact the Hanson Fire Department at (781)293-9571 THE DAY you want the inspection done, the Lieutenant will schedule a time that day to come and inspect the home.
